As you emphasize the treatment goals related to improving day-to-day functioning, highlight that having goals and interventions that match the client's identified needs is essential to the success of the treatment.

Once you have explained and discussed the goals with the client, the rest of the session will focus on gaining the client's commitment to the treatment plan and providing a coping skill for the client to practice between sessions. Session One should end with the client feeling safe, calm, and engaged with the treatment.
