Now that the client has completed the Feelings Monitoring Form, and identified emotions and coping actions, it is important to help the client refine the definitions of the feelings even further. Encouraging the client to do this allows for full exploration of the relationship between feelings.

Refining feelings is achieved through use of the Feelings Wheel, which depicts many feelings associated with the basic core feelings (e.g., sad vs. despairing) your client has most likely identified up to this point. These refined feelings can also act as interventions or components of coping actions towards living with more positive feelings.
