The primary teaching tool for Session Five is the Interpersonal Schemas Worksheet I. The purpose of this worksheet is to help clients articulate their key interpersonal schemas and to identify ways these schemas are negatively affecting their current relationships.
On this worksheet, the concepts described earlier can be concretized and personalized for each client. Given that this is more than likely the first time your client has tried to articulate complex interpersonal schema concepts, it is critical to describe this worksheet and its rationale thoroughly.
By this point in the treatment, the client should be comfortable completing the Feelings Monitoring Form (from Session Two). The provider should present the Interpersonal Schemas Worksheet I in a similar way, highlighting its value and importance for:
- Discovering important information about the client’s interpersonal relationships.
- Becoming aware of how the client thinks and feels about ‘self’.
- Becoming aware of the client's expectations about others.
