A number of other problems may occur along with PTSD. These include:

  • Depression
  • Other anxiety-related problems
  • Misuse of alcohol or drugs
  • Problems in relationships, at work, and in school
  • Physical symptoms (pain, headaches, digestive problems)
  • Increased risk of medical problems

You may feel deeply frustrated by the problems PTSD has caused. You may not understand why they do the things they do.

PTSD can have short-term consequences, like keeping your loved one from attending a family get together. It can also have long-term consequences. These may include losing a job, social isolation, lack of emotional engagement and expression, anger problems, and increased stress.
