What’s the next step?

If you can relate to the Veterans featured on this site, it’s possible you could have PTSD. The good news is that there are effective treatment options that can help you feel better. Getting treatment for PTSD can help you manage your symptoms, build stronger relationships, and do more of the things you care about.

Take a short PTSD self-screen

Take this self-screen, or short questionnaire, to find out if the feelings and behaviors you’re struggling with could be related to PTSD. If you answer “yes” to several of the questions, it’s likely that you have PTSD. Only a mental health provider can confirm if you have PTSD and recommend treatment options for you.

Talk to a mental health provider

If you think you might have PTSD, the next step is to connect with a mental health provider to find out for sure. A provider who knows about PTSD can help you understand your treatment options and what type of treatment will be most helpful for you.

If you already have a mental health provider, make an appointment with them to talk about PTSD treatment options. If you don’t have a provider yet, you can:

  • Ask your doctor to help you find a VA mental health provider who specializes in PTSD treatment
  • Use this search tool to find a VA facility in your area

Some Veterans may choose to seek PTSD treatment outside of VA. Here are some resources to help:
