The Pain Coach app was created for anyone who experiences chronic pain or has any pain that disrupts their life. The app uses cutting edge, evidence-informed strategies to help people manage chronic pain.

Features include:

  • 12 levels of activities to help you manage pain and improve your life
  • A multimedia journal for collecting useful information and reflections
  • A step-by-step guide for identifying your pain support network
  • Trackers for pain and mood symptoms

How to Use Pain Coach

Pain Coach can be used as a stand-alone education and self-care tool, or as a supplement to professional care.

When you first open the app, you will have the opportunity to personalize your experience by identifying where in the body you feel pain, answering questions about your pain history, identifying factors that make your pain feel better or worse, and describing how you currently manage the pain. You can update this information at any time by selecting the menu in the top left corner of the home screen and selecting My Pain Coach.

Get the most out of Pain Coach by completing a daily check-in. After you finish checking in, complete one of the suggested tools or readings in the Try section on the home screen. Complete all the Try activities to be advanced to the next level. When you find a particularly helpful tool or reading or have an idea about how to manage your pain, make note of it in the My Journal section.

Any data created by the user of this app are only as secure as the phone/device itself. Use the security features on your device if you are concerned about the privacy of your information. Users are free to share data; as the self-monitoring data belong to each user, HIPAA concerns do not apply while the data are stored or shared. If the user were to transmit or share data with a health care provider, the provider must then comply with the HIPAA rules.
