LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator
Every VA healthcare system has an LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator (LGBTQ+ VCC) whose job is to help Veterans who are members of the LGBTQ+ community get the care they need. These coordinators work to ensure that LGBTQ+ Veterans feel welcomed and cared for. If you need help:
- Go to the LGBTQ+ VCC Locator to find the LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator in the VA healthcare system that you use
- Find helpful information at the LGBTQ+ Health Program website
- Find information focused on LGBTQ+ mental health
Veterans who identify as female can also connect with the Women Veterans Program Manager at their facility. Like LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinators, Women Veterans Program Managers are skilled advocates. They can help you get to VA services and programs, state and federal benefits, and resources.
PTSD Treatment
Each medical center within VA has PTSD specialists who provide treatment for Veterans with PTSD. There are nearly 200 specialized PTSD treatment programs throughout the country. Most Veterans with PTSD get outpatient treatment. This may be in person or through telehealth. Inpatient treatment is also available. You will work with your provider to get the care that best meets your needs. Veterans who served in a combat area or experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST) can also receive services at Vet Centers. To find out more about your treatment options, see VA PTSD Treatment Programs. For more help locating a program or service, you can ask the LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator at the Veterans Affairs healthcare system that you use.
