Biography

Matthew Yoder, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who joined the National Center for PTSD's Consultation Program in 2013 after working as the national Evidence-Based Psychotherapy via Telemental Health Program Manager. In this position, he oversaw the implementation and evaluation of several national projects within Mental Health Services testing the feasibility of using clinical video technologies to offer evidence-based mental health care. In 2019, Dr. Yoder left the National Center for PTSD, accepting a position as Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Clinical and School Psychology Program at the University of Virginia.

He was previously part of the PTSD Clinical Team at the Ralph H. Johnson VA in Charleston, SC, where he worked as a staff psychologist providing Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to Veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Dr. Yoder also served as a PTSD mentor for PTSD program directors in his region and as a consultant on the national PE rollout.

Dr. Yoder received his doctorate from Virginia Tech in 2008. His research is focused on studying the effectiveness of exposure-based therapies for PTSD in outpatient settings and he has collaborated on grants exploring mindfulness-based approaches to the treatment of PTSD, comorbid PTSD and substance use disorders, and treatments for PTSD and severe mental illness.
