Biography
Steven R. Thorp, PhD, ABPP, is Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Diego.
Dr. Thorp earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno and completed postdoctoral research fellowships in geriatric psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He ran the PTSD Clinical Team at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and has served as an Associate Professor at UCSD (as well as CSPP) for many years.
Dr. Thorp conducts research on interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including using technology (such as videoconferencing psychology) to monitor and ameliorate PTSD symptoms. He also studies different psychotherapies for older combat Veterans with PTSD as well as stigma about mental health. He has over 80 publications, and he was named one of the Best Psychology Scientists in the United States. He is the Faculty Representative for the Student Association for Military Psychology (SAMP), which has been awarded Chapter of the Year on multiple occasions.
