Prior to accepting her current position in the VA, Dr. Galovski was an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and co-Director of the Center for Trauma Recovery.
Over the last decade, Dr. Galovski has been a national trainer of Cognitive Processing Therapy and has trained upwards of 700 VA clinicians in VA and approximately 200 clinicians in community mental health clinics primarily in the states of Texas, Missouri, and Colorado. She is interested in exploring the effects of exposure to traumatic events and continuing the development of psychological interventions designed to treat PTSD and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
She has conducted federally funded clinical trials (NIH, SAMHSA, DoD) within a variety of populations exposed to different types of trauma including combat, sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, community violence, and motor vehicle accidents. This work has been conducted with civilians, law enforcement, active duty Service members, and Veterans.
Recently, with the generous support of foundations such as the Walmart Foundation, Dr. Galovski has developed a national network of peer-led support groups for women Veterans (Women Veterans Network: WoVeN). More specific areas of interest include investigations into the roles of sleep impairment in recovery from trauma, anger, and physical health complications in the maintenance of and recovery from PTSD. Finally, Dr. Galovski continues to investigate gender differences in PTSD clinical presentations and treatment outcomes.
