Biography

Dr. Keane is the Director of the Behavioral Science Division of the National Center for PTSD at VA Boston, a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology and Assistant Dean for Research at Boston University School of Medicine; he is also recognized as a world leader in the field of traumatic stress.

He developed many of the most widely used PTSD assessment measures and is considered an authority on the cognitive behavioral treatment of PTSD. Dr. Keane has participated in many scientific review panels and was co-chair of the National Institute of Mental Health Consensus Conference that established national standards for the diagnosis and assessment of PTSD.

His research has been continuously funded for 33 years and he's published approximately 300 books, papers, and chapters. He is a past president of ISTSS, the Division of Psychological Trauma of the APA, the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, and is President Elect of the Society of Clinical Psychology of APA. He's a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.

Keane has received many awards acknowledging his professional contributions, including a Fulbright Scholarship, Binghamton University's Weisband Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Therapy's Outstanding Researcher Award, the Robert J. Laufer Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award (1997) and the Lifetime Achievement Award (2004) from the ISTSS. He recently received the Society of Clinical Psychology's Outstanding Research Contributions Award from the APA. For his work on PTSD, he's also received two honorary doctorates.
