Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based talk therapy for PTSD that helps you decrease distress by evaluating and changing strong negative beliefs you developed as a result of your trauma. CPT has been shown to be one of the most effective treatments for PTSD. CPT Coach is a free mobile application (app) for patients in CPT with a mental health provider. It is available for use on Apple and Android devices.
CPT is a treatment companion app that helps you complete the tasks of treatment.
Features include:
- Education about CPT
- Mobile versions of the CPT worksheets and reading assignments
- PTSD symptom tracking
- Practice plan to help you keep track of assignments
- Reminders to complete homework and attend sessions
NOTE: PTSD is a serious mental health condition that requires professional evaluation and treatment. You should only use CPT Coach if you are in treatment with a therapist trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy. The app does not replace treatment. This form of therapy is available at VA/DoD and other mental health clinics. When you begin treatment, talk with your therapist about using this mobile app.
CPT Coach may make it easier for you and your provider to follow the published CPT treatment manual. The features included in CPT Coach may also increase the likelihood that you complete homework, and as a result, improve your treatment outcomes.

Privacy and Security
Any data created by the user of this app are only as secure as the phone/device itself. We recommend using a passcode on your device if you are concerned about the privacy of your information.
Users are free to export data from the app, such as worksheets and symptom assessments, but as the data belongs to each user, HIPAA concerns do not apply when the data is shared. If the user were to transmit or share data with a health care provider, the provider must then comply with HIPAA rules.
Who Created CPT Coach?
CPT Coach was a collaborative effort between the VA's National Center for PTSD, the VA's Sierra Pacific (VISN 21) MIRECC, and the Department of Defense's DHA Connected Health. Additional thanks go to the Cincinnati VA Medical Center.
