The impact of racial trauma is receiving an unprecedented level of national attention. This course discusses how to provide culturally sensitive PTSD treatment for people of color.
The author reviews the literature on racial stress and trauma, focusing on the historical context of relevant cultural factors related to Black, Indigenous, and military and Veteran populations. Research related to health disparities and racial/ethnic differences in PTSD symptom presentation is included. The course highlights important cultural factors to consider in the assessment and treatment of PTSD, offers tips to address racial stress and trauma in the context of trauma-focused evidence-based PTSD treatments such as Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure, and presents strategies for case formulation and tailoring treatment plans to address racial stress and trauma.
