Culturally Responsive PTSD Care 101: The Role of Case Formulation Author(s):

Gayle Y. Iwamasa, PhD, HSPP

Description

In 2014, over 1 in 4 Veterans were people of Color and current projections estimate that by 2045, almost half of Veterans will be non-white. Data from the Veterans Health Administration show that culturally diverse Veterans differ from their non-Veteran peers. As the population of Veterans with PTSD becomes increasingly diverse (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, etc.), mental health providers need to continue to develop clinical skills that ensure the services they deliver are effective.

This course provides an overview of how to utilize a collaboratively developed case formulation to inform and guide PTSD treatment as an initial step to the provision of culturally responsive care. The author presents multiple approaches to assist therapists in addressing issues of diversity within evidence-based PTSD treatment.

Goals and Objectives
