Navigating Complexities When Delivering EMDR Therapy Author(s):

Marianne Silva, LCSW

Description

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a recommended treatment for PTSD across most international guidelines including the Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense (VA/DoD) Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of PTSD. Despite the growth of EMDR training and practice resources, providers may face challenges such as complex client presentations.

This online course offers strategies for providing EMDR to special populations within various treatment settings while maintaining fidelity to the standard EMDR protocol. The author discusses time-limited treatment, virtual telehealth, and working with patients who have co-occurring conditions.

Goals and Objectives

  • Describe the development of EMDR therapy and summarize available training and practice resources
  • Identify strategies when delivering EMDR therapy with complex client presentations
  • Identify considerations and challenges for implementing EMDR in time-limited and virtual settings
