Description
Section 133 of the VA MISSION Act of 2018 requires VA to establish competency standards for non-VA providers treating Veterans for injuries and conditions in which VA has a special expertise. This 0.5-hour accredited course was designed to provide community medical professionals with brief training on key information related to the care of Veterans who experienced military sexual trauma (MST), which is associated with both physical and mental health conditions.
This course will help you enhance patient care by reviewing the specific health care needs of MST survivors and by highlighting strategies to improve patient-provider communication. Links to key resources to help you in your practice are included.
Registration Required
This course was developed by VA's national MST Support Team in support of specific requirements of the MISSION Act. To access the course in TRAIN, you will need to join the "Veteran Community Care Providers" group within "VHA". To do so:
- Go to your TRAIN profile and choose "Manage Groups"
- If you are not already a member of "National/VHA," choose "Join Another Group." Type "VHA" or choose it from the list below the search box. Then select "Veteran Community Care Providers" from the list of Affiliations.
- If you are already a member of "National/VHA," choose the edit (pencil) icon to the right. On the "Edit Group" page, you can either type "Veteran Community Care Providers" in the Select: Affiliations box or select it from the list below.
- Be sure to confirm your selections and save your updated profile. You can then search for the course by the title or ID number.
