Description

Accurate and comprehensive assessment of PTSD is essential to understand a patient's clinical presentation and to support evidence-based treatment engagement and delivery. Information in this course stems from clinician questions about PTSD diagnosis and assessment received by VA's PTSD Consultation Program.

This online course reviews frequently asked questions related to PTSD assessment and diagnosis. Topics include assessment of Criterion A trauma and PTSD symptoms, as well as measurement tools, providing empathic feedback on assessments, and common patient presentations. Providers will learn to implement the most recent research about assessing and treating Veterans with PTSD and related clinical implications. Research, literature, and resources associated with PTSD assessment are reviewed.

  • Describe the fundamental role of PTSD assessment and wide range of frequently asked assessment questions
  • Identify at least 2 strategies to address common PTSD diagnostic questions
  • Describe at least 2 questions related to PTSD assessment measurement
  • Identify at least 2 other common patient-focused assessment questions and encourage consultation to support clinical practice and assessment
