Description
Several evidence-based psychotherapies and medications can help Veterans recover from PTSD. However, access to these services can be challenged by barriers such as distance, timing, scarcity of trained providers, cost, stigma, etc. Flexible models of care delivery are needed and technology, such as home-based clinical video teleconferencing, may offer a solution for PTSD care.
This course describe how telemental health (TMH) technology, specifically home-based clinical video teleconference (CVT), can be used to address common barriers to care for Veterans with PTSD. Clinical benefits and challenges as well as research updates and new directions for this model of care are discussed.
Goals and Objectives
- Identify 3 barriers to care for rural or remote Veterans with PTSD.
- Describe how to offer evidenced-based PTSD treatment to rural Veterans via telehealth.
- List at least 3 resources to help providers start a telemental health (TMH) program.
