Palo Alto University (PAU)
Forensic Psychology Program
PAU provides ongoing administrative and staff support to police training efforts. In addition to serving as the hub for the evaluation arm of the training, the Adult Forensic Psychology Research Lab at PAU is dedicated to addressing a number of Veteran and PTSD-specific issues within the legal system.
Oakland Vet Center
The Oakland Vet Center supports the police training efforts in the San Francisco Bay area from which this toolkit has grown. In addition to these contributions, Vet Center staff are increasingly engaged with the Oakland Police Department during critical incidents involving Veterans in the local community.
Swords to Plowshares
Swords to Plowshares is a non-profit community based organization providing comprehensive services to Veterans in the greater San Francisco Bay area. Swords has been a partner in our training efforts since their inception, and is responsible for the Veteran cultural competency component of the trainings that are offered.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)
Mental Evaluation Unit (MEU)
In addition to running a state-of-the art system that tracks all Veteran police contacts linking them to embedded mental health experts, the MEU of the Los Angeles Police Department has placed nearly 1000 officers through the National Center for PTSD police training program.
California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
Representatives from POST were instrumental in informing the initial content of our training efforts, and in providing formal endorsement and certification of our training package.
Stress First Aid Model
The Stress First Aid Model for Law Enforcement Professionals was created with the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. The law enforcement model was derived from prior versions for fire and rescue personnel, which were developed by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Department of the Navy.
