Description
The 2017 VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD recommends evidence-based, trauma-focused psychotherapies, such as Prolonged Exposure (PE) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as a first-line treatment for PTSD.
Emerging research is demonstrating support for the acceptability, feasibility and effectiveness of delivering evidence-based psychotherapy (EBP) for PTSD in a massed model (up to daily treatment sessions). Studies examining more intensive massed models suggest higher treatment retention, treatment completion and reduced likelihood of avoidance as patients may see improvements sooner and have more frequent contact with treatment providers.
This course reviews the research supporting massed PTSD treatment models and implementation considerations within a VA PTSD Clinical Team.
Goals and Objectives
- Describe the outcomes and implementation of evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) for PTSD
- Debate research outcomes and barriers to care for massed EBP delivery
- Discuss strategies and clinical considerations for implementation of massed delivery
- Explore future directions for EBPs for PTSD in a massed model
